July 12 Championship Race -- Terry Cornelius Wins!

This has been a Summer of WIND and Saturday's racing reflected that. The C Scows again demonstrated their dominance.

Isaiah Grant finishes second at Rebel Junior National Championships

Jim Grant was 11^th at the Rebel Nationals (with a borrowed boat). Jim's grandson, Isaiah, was second in the five race Rebel Jr Nationals. The adult event consisted of nine races from Monday, July 13, through Thursday, the 17. The events were held on Lake Fenton, MI. The wind was excellent and so was the racing.

Jim Grant gets Top Grand Master Trophy at Diamond Lake Regatta

Twenty-eight MCs sailed in extremely heavy air at Diamond Lake on July 12 and 13. After 5 races Jim Grant, the only Clear Lake participant, was 7th and the top ranked Grand Master. Alan and Glen Walborn were first and second overall at the event with Chris Craig third.

Hosted by Alan & Sue Korte and Kevin & Shaun Hart. Ride your John Deere in to the party and the host will buy your first drink. No grass to mow—no snow to plow—just ride on in for a fun night. Coney dogs and all the trimmings are on the

AUGUST 22 STEAK OUT

The annual Steak Out is hosted by Marty & Julie Zachrich and Joyce & Larry Schavey. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED. $10.00 per adult and $5.00 for children under six.

Clear Lake Tennis

When the weather permits, the ladies are playing tennis on Monday and Wednesday mornings at 8:30 am. Also, we invite ladies and men to come play on Saturday mornings at 8:30. Just show up to play. We’ll make an effort to divide players by skill level.

We now have a ball machine for use by tennis members. Thanks to Leo Weber for restoring the machine, Home Lumber for building a shed for it, Geiger Electric for connecting the electric and the Gays for donating power from their garage.

We will have mixed doubles followed by the famous Lobster Dinner on August 2^nd. Call Barb Wenger for more details.

There are some real tennis talents developing among our Junior Tennis kids. We have started a Junior Tennis Ladder to encourage more frequent play. Thanks to Leo Weber, Jay Ludgate, Barb Wenger and several others for teaching many kids in July.

Ski Show for 2008

The Clear Lake Ski Club Show will be Sunday, July 27, this year. It will start at 2:00 PM. NOTE THAT THIS IS A CHANGE OF DATE!

The Clear Lake Ski Show will take place Sunday, August 3, this year at 2:00 PM.

The Championship Race June 14, 2008

Sixteen boats turned out for a rather short race in wind from 4 to 10 mph. Marty had a two minute penalty which he could not overcome in the 46 minutes that the race required. Do NOT ask the committee boat "what is the course"-- we all know that it is determined by two cannon blasts after 60 minutes from the C Scow start. The race committee was asked the question so they responded by guessing a W3+. A choice that turned out to be too short. The time limit is designed to remove the necessity for guessing.

Jim Horein started very well at the committee boat end and raced two MC Scows almost dead even to the first mark. On the second leg he headed for the left side of the course and picked up a lift that brought him right back to the MCs after he had fallen behind a hundred yards or so. Most of the fleet stayed to the right of the course on all three legs. Actually there seemed to be no real benefit to this tactic -- picking up small 10 to 15 degree oscillations was probably more important.

Bob Lewis was disqualified for a windward leeward downwind infraction with both boats on the same tack.

Jeff Frank with his two boys sailed an excellent race to end up third behind Horein and Jack Sanderson.

Marty still has two more races with his 2 minute penalty. Jack Sanderson, Jim Horein, and Jeff Frank will have 2 minute penalties for the next three races.

Hog Wild C Scow Regatta Notes

Ten C Scows participated in this year's Hog Wild Regatta. There were 5 excellent races in winds from 12 to 24 mph! There was close competition and quite a few capsizes.Our own John and Sean Cochran came away with the first place trophy. Two Lake Fenton boats (Tom Kennan and son with help from our own Rudy and Ken Seamon with Bill DeCoste crewing) finished 2nd and 3rd. Don Wagner with crew Matt and wife Dinah finished 4th -- they traveled all the way from Davenport, Iowa, for the races!

Hog Wild MC Scow Regatta Notes

We had 7 MC Scows and 10 C Scows for 2 days of really good wind (some would say a bit more than "good") racing. Matt Grant from Maxinkukee Lake finished second in the MC class in spite of 4 capsizes (three in one race). Jack Sanderson with granddaughter Erin and Jim Grant with grandson Tanner were nearly evenly matched but the Sanderson duo very inteligently declined to race when the wind reached extreme levels. Isaiah and Zach Grant used the event to practice their capsize (turtle) recovery abilities. Zach did finish one race single handing the boat -- Isaiah never did. But Isaiah did double hand with Zach for a third and a fourth (he skippered the boat for the fourth place finish). Bridgett McCardle with her "soon to be" husband sailed the first two races on Saturday. Megan sailed the third. Then father Jack sailed on Sunday and was in second place (and gaining on Jim Grant and Tanner) on the last leg of race 5 when he capsized and turned turtle. Bob Buddig (of the Buddig Meat Company) came down from Indian Lake to sail with us and earned third place in the event. He sailed a very sensible regatta, never capsizing and always finishing.

CLYC will Host Hog Wild Regatta June 7 & 8

The Hog Wild Regatta will be held June 7 and 8. This regatta is open to all C-Scows and MC-Scows. Note that we have moved the regatta forward one week because it conflicted with the C Scow Nationals (4/23/08)!
